Exclusive Salary Survey: Payday!
October 05, 2007
Average trainer salaries hit $81,940 in 2007. What's in your wallet?
By Lorri Freifeld

Despite a see-sawing economy that could make even the most cast-iron stomach queasy, salaries for trainers remain rock-solid at $81,940 in 2007, according to Training magazine's Annual Salary Survey of 639 readers. Even though that's only $451 up from last year (a negligible .56 percent), it's better than seeing salaries go south. Respondents report an average salary increase of 4.2 percent in the last 12 months (not including a promotion or change of employer).

And there is a relatively big bright spot, with several categories seeing some large increases. Executive-level pay is up 18.2 percent over 2006 at $131,704, but the most significant jump comes in salaries for IT training managers—up a whopping 42 percent to $93,893. Interestingly enough, female IT training managers earn $108,222 versus $68,100 for their male counterparts, one of the few job titles where this is the case (executive-level training HRD manager and personnel manager/specialist being the other two). Of all industries, consulting continues to rake in the big bucks, up 1.5 percent to $115,259. Health/medical saw the biggest decline, down 14.6 percent to $79,656.

Some 46.1 percent of respondents feel their salary is low relative to their responsibilities, while 45.7 percent say it's equitable. The average cash bonus received in 2006 was $13,096. Some 58.7 percent of respondents expect to receive a cash bonus in 2007.
