Are Gift Cards the Way to Worker Wellness? May 22, 2008 Givewell.com introduces company ordering program for Healthcare Gift Card

Motivating workers to take better care of themselves is a top priority for many organizations across the country. Now employers can help ease employees' health and wellness expenses with the launch of the Healthcare Gift Card company ordering program on Givewell.com.
The Healthcare Gift Card, created by the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania-based health insurer Highmark Inc., offers a flexible alternative for employee incentive and recognition programs, as well as client gifts. The card can be used as payment for a wide range of personal care needs ranging from co-pay at doctor's offices and dental care to health club memberships and spa services. The card, issued by Metbank, can be used at any establishment where the Visa debit card is accepted; and can be replaced if lost or stolen.
According to Kim Bellard, vice president of eMarketing at Highmark Inc., the Healthcare Gift Card offers numerous benefits to recipients and the giving organizations. "For recipients, the Healthcare Gift Card is an easy way to fund healthcare-related purchases if they don't have insurance coverage or if a service is not covered. It may also motivate someone to go to the gym who, might otherwise, not have the funds to pay." As for businesses, Bellard says, "A lot of companies are doing a variety of things to encourage employees to stay healthy; and this is having a positive impact on productivity and healthcare costs."
The new corporate program on Givewell.com, allows organizations to order large quantities of the Healthcare Gift Card, which can range in value from $50 to $5000. More information is available by phone at (877) 850-3774 or www.givewell.com.
