Mentoring takes many forms at Deliotte & Touche—but all of the New York-based professional, scientific and technical services company's programs, formal and informal, share one main resource: a Web site on the company's intranet that provides guidance and implementation tools applicable to all setups, and any employee can be paired up with a mentor or mentee via the Web.
However, certain programs are more formally structured, such as the Virtual Role Model Web site for women, which links client services professionals to pre-screened mentors; the Midwest Mentoring Program, which, originally open to women only, expanded to male minorities last year; and the Northeast Region Mentoring Program, which is is comprised of 60 percent women. The company says other programs have been set up in more localized areas and still others unite people who have similar careers and focus on a particular business practice, such as auditing or consulting.
