Over the past few years, there has been a great deal of talk and conjecture about the percentage of formal training programs that use a blended delivery approach—that is they used various instructional media ranging from classes and workbooks to Web-based courses and self-study cd-rom modules. In the hope of quantifying just how much "blending" of methods is taking place, we added this question to this year's report and found that just 24 percent of training courses actually use a blended delivery approach. Interestingly, the smallest-sized companies we track—those with 100 to 499 employees—use a blended approach the most, at 25 percent of the time. By industry, companies operating in the public administration, business services and transportation/communication/utilities sectors were most likely to be blended believers.
